Manticore Search in 2023

2023 has been an extraordinary year for Manticore Search, marked by significant advancements and growing community support. Let’s dive into our top achievements of the year.

Five New Software Releases

This year, we rolled out five new versions of Manticore Search, each either packed with major enhancements to improve user experience and system performance or stability. The most remarkable features from these updates include:

  • Brought in Manticore Buddy, a significant addition for high-level functionality.
  • Buddy allowed us to implement lots of integrations: mysqldump, Apache Superset, Grafana, HeidiSQL, DBForge, Logstash, Filebeat, Vector.dev, Elasticsearch to some extent (for ‘insert’ and ‘replace’ queries).
  • Tools for automated backup and restore.
  • Auto-schema feature making Manticore more schemaless.
  • Revamped Cost-Based Query Optimizer for smarter decision-making and enhanced performance.
  • GitHub Workflows: Simplification of the Continuous Integration process for contributors.
  • Numerous performance improvements, with a specific focus on multi-threading calculations.
  • Hundreds of bug fixes and tens of other new features.

Surge in GitHub Stars

Our GitHub project’s star count skyrocketed from 2,300 to 7,400 in 2023, a clear indication of the growing popularity and endorsement of Manticore Search in the developer community.

Fivefold Increase in Active Instances

The number of active Manticore Search instances grew by an impressive five times, demonstrating a significant expansion in our user base and trust in our product.

Introduction of KNN Search and REGEX Operator

Two major features, being prepared for release, made their debut this year:

  • K-nearest Neighbor (KNN) Vector Search: This advanced search functionality enables similarity searches, recommendations, and more, using embeddings generated by machine learning models.
  • REGEX Full-text Operator: A powerful tool for complex pattern matching in text data, making searches more flexible and comprehensive.

Recognition in the ROSS Index

Manticore Search was featured in the Runa Open Source Startup (ROSS) Index for Q3 2023. This inclusion highlights our rapid growth and the vibrant activity around our project on GitHub.

We are currently developing the JOIN functionality, which is expected to significantly transform the use of Manticore Search. Additionally, we are in continuing integrating Manticore Search with Kibana, a step that aims to simplify using Manticore for log management. Several other exciting projects are also in the pipeline!
